Nonlinear Transform Coding with Lossless Polar Coordinates

چکیده
In conventional transform coding, the importance of preserving desirable quantization partition cell shapes prevents one from considering the use of a nonlinear change of variables. If no linear transformation of a given source would yield independent components, this means having to encode it at a rate higher than its entropy, i.e. suboptimally. This thesis proposes a new transform coding technique where the source samples are first uniformly scalar quantized and then transformed with an integerto-integer approximation to a nonlinear transformation that would give independent components. In particular, we design a family of integer-to-integer approximations to the Cartesian-to-polar transformation and analyze its behavior for high rate transform coding. Among the benefits of such an approach is the ability to achieve redundancy reduction beyond decorrelation without limitation to orthogonal linear transformations of the original variables. A high resolution analysis is given, and for source models inspired by a sensor network application and by image compression, simulations show improvements over conventional transform coding. A comparison to state-of-the-art entropy-coded polar quantization techniques is also provided. Thesis Supervisor: Vivek K Goyal Title: Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering

Abstract In this work, the Mellin transform method was used to obtain solutions for the stress field components in two dimensional (2D) elasticity problems in terms of plane polar coordinates. the Mellin transformation was applied to the biharmonic stress compatibility equation expressed in terms of the Airy stress potential function, and the boundary value problem transformed to an algebraic ...
متن کاملElzaki transform method for finding solutions to two-dimensional elasticity problems in polar coordinates formulated using Airy stress functions
In this paper, the Elzaki transform method is used for solving two-dimensional (2D) elasticity problems in plane polar coordinates. Airy stress function was used to express the stress compatibility equation as a biharmonic equation. Elzaki transform was applied with respect to the radial coordinate to a modified form of the stress compatibility equation, and the biharmonic equation simplified t...
متن کاملLifting-Based Lossless Image Coding by Discrete-Time Cellular Neural Networks
The lifting scheme is an efficient and flexible method for the construction of linear and nonlinear wavelet transforms. In the nonlinear lifting scheme, it is difficult to design the optimal update filter corresponding to the nonlinear prediction filter. It is well-known that the combination use of linear filter and nonlinear filter is an efficient filter pair. In this paper, we propose a novel...

In lossless coding, compresssion and decompression of source data result in the exact recovery of the individual elements of the original source data. Lossless image / video coding is necessary in applications where no loss of pixel values is tolerable. Examples are medical imaging, remote sensing, in image/video archives and studio applications where tandemand trans-coding are used in editing,...
متن کاملNonexpansive pyramid for image coding using a nonlinear filterbank
A nonexpansive pyramidal decomposition is proposed for low-complexity image coding. The image is decomposed through a nonlinear filterbank into low- and highpass signals and the recursion of the filterbank over the lowpass signal generates a pyramid resembling that of the octave wavelet transform. The structure itself guarantees perfect reconstruction and we have chosen nonlinear filters for pe...
